Running For State Legislature
Just a quick note to let local folks know that I am, indeed, running for Mississippi House District 93. Since the television station (once again) failed to mention my candidacy, some folks have questioned whether or not I qualified to run. A quick glance at the Secretary of State’s website will verify that I am in the race.
Sun Herald List of Candidates
I’ll have more news to post soon. Thanks!

Moving Up A Teat
About ten years ago I gave a speech at an Agrarian conference. The gist of it was personal observations from Andrew Nelson Lytle’s essay, The Hind Tit from the collection, The Twelve Southerners. It will certainly not be of interest to most folks as it crosses the grain of modernity’s lifestyle and worldview. I close with a brief bit of observation from a perspective of ten years after.

The Master Gardener
When we think of “ploughing up the fallow ground,” “sowing seed” and “harvest time” - we are often drawn to the rich Biblical imagery and similitudes they represent. I took a few minutes to jot down some meditations from my perspective as a “gardener.” Feel free to leave a comment.

You’ve Been Hacked…
These dreaded words have appeared on a number of my friend’s web sites recently. In fact, web sites everywhere are being attacked, mainly (as we understand), from malicious Turkish hackers. In the past month, this web site has had 390,000 hack attempts. Even at 3:00 a.m. you can look at the statistics and see something like 33 guests online when, in reality, it is all various malicious scripts trying to find a vulnerability into my site. It does no good to blacklist the IP addresses. You will find that the scripts immediately shift to a different address. Click “More” to read of some things everyone should do to safeguard their sites.

When Does the Lord Work?
Does the Lord ignore the plight of his people? Does he ignore the cries and weeping of saints on their knees? Are there any saints on their knees? Our days appear to be growing darker and the light of God’s Word seems to be getting dimmer. As Christians, what should we be thinking in desperate times like these? Psalm 119 gives us some food for thought. Read on…

A Tribute to Delma Bishop
Yesterday I was given a copy of a clipping from a 1944 Durant, Mississippi newspaper announcing the death of my Uncle Bill (Delma Bishop) during the Normandy Invasion during World War II. Part of the clipping was a tribute written by a family member, Marie Bishop Mansell, reflecting her views of the war robbing the family of our young 18 year old. The war machine was feed a disproportionate amount of Southerners - and the uncle I never knew was one of them. After reading the tribute, I wanted to share it with y’all. I have also posted a .pdf copy of the clippings. I wonder how many families feel the same way today when they hear they have lost a loved one in the “war on terror”?

Ownership vs. Stewardship
Are we the real owners of the things “we possess”? This paper takes a Biblical look at whether we are owners or stewards and how that should affect our lives.

You’ve got to watch this news clip as it is a hoot! Muslims are wanting to build a mosque in a Katy, Texas subdivision and when they can’t be “bought out” - a good ol’ boy fights back the only way he knows how.

Update on Loch and Load Site
Things have been quite busy since my Father’s passing and I haven’t had any time to complete the update of johncripps.com (which began just before my father went into the hospital) or write any new articles for this site. However, things are just beginning to settle down somewhat and I plan to get back to work on the sites in early December. Thanks for your patience!
